Description

Warning: This content contains descriptions of scenes depicting violence and gore.

January 13th, 2023: We wrote a remake for the upcoming 10th Anniversary. This time, editor became main writer while I gave ideas how some new scenes not found here would go.

November 20th: Thinking more visually again and fixed a few plot holes. One plot hole was that, why Sonic didn't run away when he got back control?

November 6th: Thinking more visually again provided me with a few new descriptions for things in the story. All of the game character sections had at least one change with Sonic's section having one major change. Not to spoil too much, the change was were Sonic and Sonic.exe is talking. Before it was just the two of them standing on a blank backdrop. After the edits...

October 27th: When I was working on screenshots, I was thinking about details that I might have missed in Green Hill Zone Act 1 and Hill Act 2 since I was looking at maps of the Zones. Parts added was the fact that Tom was exploring the level when he found the parts in Act 1, and additional information about the unnatural convergence in Act 2 and the totem poles on the new path. I felt not including them was a missed opportunity on my part because I forgot about them. Now I feel the beginning and Tails sections are done. With the other parts, I will see how the details translate in a visual medium.

October 21st - 23rd: Editor ClockworkCreeper a.k.a. croixf is trying his hand at editing to get this polished for a special treat.

October 13th: I made a few changes with the help of my brother. The big parts were to make the character's forms unique from one another and mention that their screens in the level select used 3D art of their modern design, since I am thinking of this more visually. There are also a few fixes in Sonic's section.

September 22nd - 25th, 2014: Hazard-the-Porgoyle has reviewed and revised all sections with me. The issues addressed included making Tom act more consistently throughout the story, improving the visual descriptions in order to make the scenes easier to visualize, and improving general sentence structure/the flow of ideas.

From here on out, potential revisions will be handled as follows: If you want to see something changed, either leave a comment below or send me a note, and within your message, state the page number and the number of the paragraph on that page you wished to see revised, and then make your edits/suggestions. Hazard and I will review them from there and incorporate them if they are acceptable. Doing this shall earn you a spot in the editor's list. If you have broad, story wide suggestions, we'd like to hear those too. We feel we've gotten pretty close to calling this the final version, but hey, maybe something we haven't noticed really can be improved.

September 14th, 2014: I found a few errors to iron out from the edits and I addressed possible plot holes like the disappearing/reappearing jewel case.

September 11th, 2014: Sandvich33 had his hand in editing this time.

June 7th, 2014: SheyGrell, the writer behind Anti-Sonic.dll, Room Lit with Red, and Parallel Depths, added his own edits to Darkest Struggles for readability and tension.

Original Description:

Hello everyone. This is a reboot of Sonic.exe, a creepypasta originally written by J.C. the Hyena. I felt after seeing the game based off of the Creepypasta and the numerous critique videos on YouTube that ensued, that this was rather necessary. It was supposed to be done by Halloween, but stuff got in the way. ^^;

A few things that I fixed up were:
  1. Subtly and build up. This also includes switching events around.
  2. Tom's reactions and making him not a total idiot. The flaws he portrays now are slightly more realistic.
  3. Treating Tom and Kyle as more complete characters.
  4. The game itself. I know, "It's a game just to demonstrate his powers and use as a portal to take his victim's souls," but that doesn't excuse it from not having a narrative of its own. Also, Sonic.exe is sorta boring with the flat ground and the "hold right to lose" gameplay.
  5. A particularly infamous aspect of the original's ending was taken out.
I also added some elements that make this more than the "Make a game protagonist into a monster" affair.

I consider this project a work in progress, despite its seemingly complete condition. I want to iron out the problems with the Sonic.exe mythos, and I'd like help from all of you. If you see anything that bugs you about this whimsical tale of gumdrops and rainbows I have laid before you, tell me, and I'll consider using your suggestions to make the story better.

Special thanks to Yuriofwind www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVjkgX… and the folks at MichaelLeroiwww.youtube.com/watch?v=1zO9rT… for tearing the old story a new one.

I have permission from J.C.-the-Hyena.

Looking back this still creeps me the fuck out .Aah No

Especially that videogame adaptation by flexicodedev.

Yes even the newer more unsettling stuff like pc port, that editable rom shit (still need to see it ^^'), those new characters for the friday night funkin mod( Don't get me wrong though stuff like "starved" are such a fantastic addition ).

All of those can't even compare to how this one simple rewrite gets under my skin .

All I want to say is just...Great job!!!:TheClap: This is pratically a timeless masterpiece at this point!
